Coming to TCW

If you have not been to Cherry Grove/Fire Island, here's the rundown.

TRAVEL DETAILS

Cherry Grove, Fire Island is not accessible by car. Visitors are taken across the Great South Bay by ferry (a 20 minute ride into serenity) and arrive to a beach community that has boardwalks thorughout the scenic queer hamlet...from the bay to the beach.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: You have to take the Long Island Rail Road to Sayville (on Long Island), which is about a two hour journey from the Manhattan.

You can purchase your LIRR tickets at the station. Once you arrive at the Sayville, there are a few shuttle vans always waiting at the station to cart you off to the Sayville Ferry Service, the shuttle cost is $6 (cash, and dont forget to bring $6 cash for the ride home too).

DRIVING: When you arrive at the Sayville Ferry Service, there is a parking lot which charges by-the-day rates. Some Fire Island visitors park (for free) at the LIRR and jump on the shuttle bus to the ferry.

TAKING THE FERRY: Once you arrive at the Sayville Ferry Service, buy your roundtrip ticket (about $20) and be sure you are getting on the proper ferry (there are separate ferries for Cherry Grove for the Pines). Keep your ticket stub, you'll need it to get back.
